To me, nothing is more inspiring than a piece of calico, prepped and ready to be transformed into its new life as part of something wonderful.

Driven by a passion for learning and mastering new crafting techniques and a ceaseless creative spirit, I have spent over 35 years learning and developing my textile art skills.I love creating new art and I love to share techniques. I am driven by a desire to learn new processes and incorporate them whenever possible into my current works. It’s not just learning new skills that drives me, it is figuring out how to use them in different ways to create interesting effects, often by using these techniques in unique ways.

In my years of wandering this earth I have had the opportunity to live in a few different countries and learn from the many cultures I encountered along the way. There are always new techniques to learn, and lovely stories to hear along the way. Our history as human beings is closely linked to these techniques, and it saddens me to think that these will all be replaced by technology one day. 

Already I can see the change in human creativity having lived in Africa for so many years I have witnessed first-hand how adversity enhances creativity. In Africa people are still so creative, they are eager to learn skills and enhance not only their living situations and environments, but also themselves as people. In Europe people having everything they need at the touch of a button. There is no need to make a plan or to think outside the box. You want it, just go and buy it, no need to even think about making it yourself. The only concern is how to make the money to buy the item. Yes it’s convenient, but is it enhancing us as human beings? There are times when I look around me, at how the people are living their lives, how they are interacting with each other in the streets and I can see that the makers of the Wall-E movie were spot on. We might not be living in moving chairs just yet, but we are living in a society where everywhere around us people are hooked up to technology 18 out of 24 hours. Can we fight against this? Probably not. But we can still enrich ourselves by learning and practising the skills that have been perfected by our ancestors. To lose these skills is to lose a part of our humanity.
